My mom was a caregiver when I was growing up, I knew them my passion was going to be in the health field focusing on Geriatrics, I can remember the few people my mom sit with for years I loved like my own grandparents. I would sit mesmerized by some of the stories they would tell. When I was 25 I went to work as a CNA and some of the things the people that was suppose to be caring for them would do would make me sick! I went on to get my RN and was a semester shy of graduating because of family issues. I am seeking my BS in Health Management now with intentions of managing a health care facility. Zero policy to mistreating someone living out the last years of their life, whom ever mistreats a helpless elderly does not deserve a job period. I apologize for rant but that is exactly why I got into care giving.

One of the things I'm most proud of is a time when i walked in on a resident at the nursing facilities where i worked and his countenance just didn't look right so i asked the resident was he ok. He said yes but i just didn't have peace about it,so i called the nurse. To my surprise, he was on the verge of having a stroke due to the fact that i went to check in on him saved his life in time. Its physically and mentally challenging on a loved one to always have to do everything and especially if their not trained or knowledgeable about what they need to do. Its honestly a full time job. Most importantly I listen and talk with them. If they cant I will play music or read to them. I will bath them and change them if they are incontinent. My time with them Is just that. They have my full attention. It can be challenging and hard to trust someone with your loved ones. I vow to care for them professionally and compassionately.
