About Krysta

If you're looking for help then this is probably a very stressful time for you and/or your loved one. There is major transition going on -- and some of it might not be welcome. I want to add to your ease, decrease your burden, make this transition easier. You're looking for someone to entrust yourself or your loved one with. You probably want someone you can depend on, who's on time, reliable, conscientious, experienced, dedicated, professional, competent. I am. And I imagine you also want someone who has "soft-skills": intuitive, compassionate, deep listener, empathetic, honest, considerate, patient. That's me too. Put them together and that means you or your loved one will receive care from someone who can hold compassionate space, listen deeply, respond to needs, while also providing competently for health and daily tasks. I excel at being observant, seeing what's needed, and handling it. In addition, I respect the people I work with and talk to them as adults and people, not as incompetent, invisible or childlike. It's a lovely dance to find the balance of inter/dependent, and try not to figuratively "step on toes" finding it. I am a certified Holistic Healthcare Practitioner, which means I can often share healthy advice, while also working within the parameters of your current medical team. With me, you or your loved one is in excellent hands, combined with a compassionate heart, and a bright mind. I consider myself more than a care-taker or care-giver -- I'm a "care-empowerer."

Experience & Education

Aide, companion...

Apr 2024 - Present
Private
A team of us work 24/7 for this lovely woman., who's in her 80s. She has all her faculties. But she's broken her back once and neck twice, and requires care and companionship. Fixing meals, assisting to bathroom and bathing, working with meds, transporting, aiding in her going to sleep and back to sleep, doing exercises for her lungs, exercises in general, etc. A lot of it is companionship. I also look for what's needed, ask her, and then do it. Like creating an arthritic pain mixture for her hands and neck. Finding a different neck wrap which is soothing to her painful neck. Finding ways to make her life easier, more painfree, interesting (she's traveled around the world 8 times!), and make her feel like a queen.

This charming, humorous, integrous man has many physical and mental issues (COPD, diabetes, bone and skin cancer, very hard of hearing, very low immune system, high blood pressure; PSTD, anxiety, depression, and is in extreme pain most of the time. Helping to keep his spirit up and helping to make life more satisfying. Tasks include advocating for him at VA, asking direct questions of doctors, doing research on his multiple conditions and how to address them effectively, and watching contraindications with all the various medications. Stopped when she needed to go into nursing home.

Helped friend during cancer treatment, hospice, death

May 2017 - Jan 2018
private family
One of my good friends had cancer. I was one of the core people who were helping her in this process. I took her places and appointments, socialized with her, fundraised for her medical needs, researched information. When she was in the hospital, I advocated for her, asked questions, challenged when necessary, helped her decide what was best for her. When she was in hospice, I sang to her, talked to her, gave her things to soothe her, read to her, massaged her, etc.

Editor-in-Chief

Jan 2000 - Feb 2017
MARRIAGE magazine
This is not necessary relevant to taking care of your loved one. But it does show my professionalism, ability to take responsibility, work ethic, ability to produce and transferrable skills. Magazine closed. The entire staff for a national magazine was a part-time office manager, very part-time art director -- and me. I did most tasks on the magazine. Selected, trained, managed and mentored staff and volunteers. Every issue was on time. Increased subscriptions 520% due to usable, relevant, interesting content. Found national newsstand distributors which increased revenues by 25%. Maintained full accountability for all aspects of daily magazine operations. Demonstrated critical thinking skills.

I spent years as a Caregiver /Companion to friends, family and friends of family. Your home is your personal space. It's a place where you are most comfortable and secure. When I come in, I offer both Caregiving skills and Companionship. I respect your homes comfort zone and you. I listen and ask questions as I learn my Clients habits and needs. I have a happy heart, I am kind, friendly, patient and professional. I may offer better ways of getting care needs met but always at your approval. I am not bossy and I do not take over your home. I am also careful to put things back in their place when done with it, unless the Client states otherwise. I can assist with medications, personal hygiene care, light housework, grocery shopping, transportation, and more. Sometimes I just come in to assist family members needing a little break from their Caregiving for their family member so they can revive themselves too. I've worked in pallative care with some clients also and interacted with family members needing emotional support with their loved one adjusting to end of life issues and worked with Hospice teams like Casa de La Luz and Corondelet who are my favorites in Compassionate Hospice Care. I enjoy nature, photography and music. I am a person of Faith and I live out of my heart for others. I learn all I can regarding each individuals needs and enjoy seeing my Clients laugh and smile. A happy heart is very important! Most of all I Care! I was in a commercial for Visiting Angels 11/2015 and also did a multimedia interview (nationwide) with Channel 13 News regarding not forgetting our elderly during the Holidays and creating a Holiday box of new memories.
