Hello and thank you for wanting to learn more about me. I have been caring for those in need intermittently for over 20 years and find a joy in helping individuals while maintaining their dignity. I have cared for a diverse range of individuals with many different needs ranging from assisting with fall risks to hospice. I started care giving when I was 18. I worked with children and young adults who had severe brain damage or physical disabilities. I then started caring for disabled adults through IHSS and eventually left the industry for many different reasons. I always found my way back, though, to work with those who have special needs, either in the administrative aspect or mentoring. Now, after caring for a dear friend, I have found myself wanting to stay in the care giving business once again. Some things I have experience with include ambulation, transfers, feeding and hygiene care, and expect other duties of a general sense to include light housekeeping and cooking. I have worked with individuals who suffer from Dementia, Alzheimer's, strokes, and MS. I tend to learn habits and preferences through observation and communication and try to anticipate my clients needs. For instance, I had a client who did not like her fingernails dirty and preferred to have her hair curled with a little bit of bangs. When she declined to the point of not being able to communicate anymore, I still made sure her fingernails were clean and her hair was curled just how she liked. I also add cognitive stimulation for clients who have Dementia and Alzheimer's and try to keep them engaged in familiar activities. Essentially, my goal is to be able to give the best care possible for the circumstance. I believe patience, kindness, and empathy are key to being a great caregiver. I am also a believer in allowing a client to do as much for themselves as possible for as long as they can.
Caregivers that work non-full-time jobs or irregular shifts can negotiate extra compensation in addition to their standard hourly wage.
