I initially became a caregiver when my great grand father came to live with my family when I was sixteen years old. At first it was a family duty but it quickly became a career choice. I enjoy being a caregiver because I love and enjoy helping others. It is a very satisfying as well as gratifying position to hold because you are not just assisting the patient/client with their daily living but you are also helping their families and primary caregivers as well. Taking care of an elderly or disabled family member can be a very overwhelming and stressful experience, so being allowed to help families take a well needed break from their responsibility is a very rewarding position. I began my professional career as a caregiver in 1998. I worked for several clients through the private sector before becoming employed with a home healthcare agency in 2001. During my employment there I quickly became a Senior care associate, which not only allowed me the honor and privilege of caring for patients but I was also a trainer and supervisor of other caregivers. Becoming a training/supervisor is an achievement that I am truly proud of because it proved that I was very good at my job and that I took the position very seriously. I am highly competent and very professional caring and compassionate all of the qualities that every good caregiver should possess.
