Assigned to the Wounded Warrior Unit, also known as the Surgical Unit, responsible for providing all nursing care necessary for treatment and progress of care for wounded warriors and provide support for their families. With a wide variety of responsibilities, being assigned a set of patients for the day, faced with vital signs, documentation, ostomy care, wound care, monitoring external fixation devices, physical and occupational therapy, daily activities, drawing labs, giving medication using peripheral and central IV lines, verifying PCA pumps, giving blood, and recovering patients after surgery and returning from the PACU. As senior corpsman of the floor, I also oversaw the care of all patients given by other corpsmen and was responsible for all corpsmen assigned under me to complete all training required by the unit and the command.
