I am a responsible and dependable caregiver. My experience around elderly and in Assisted Livings has given me understanding and compassion for residents in any type of limitation that they are experiencing. I am patient, respectful, hardworking, and passionate about caregiving. What attracted me to being a caregiver was my mother. She used to be a caregiver and would take me to work every week since I was 5 so you could say I grew up in an assisted living surrounded by elderly. As a result, I've been exposed to a variety of different elderly residents with a vast range of limitations including dementia, Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, blindness, deafness, diabetes, and residents that are independent. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is learning from the residents. Each one of them is so unique, and each one of them communicates differently, sometimes because of their disabilities or limitations, but they all have a story and a lesson to pass on to others.

I began as a part time morning helper where I had various responsibilities from cleaning, showering, toileting, cooking, and conducting activities with the residents. I now work a 12 hour shift once a week where I do all of the above as well as cook and administer medications. Furthermore, I fill in for other caregivers during the week if they are unable to work. I am also the Activities Assistant where I help the Activities Director by preparing any activity worksheets for the residents, assisting in various other activities with the residents such as VRC, pony and chicken visits, movie nights, dancing, and card and board games, and I do the newsletter for the company each month.
