About Desiree

I am very kind and patient by nature. I understand that most patients and families feel frustrated and I am very receptive and compassionate about that. I treat everyone with respect and dignity. I am very intelligent, detail oriented and am able to make quick decisions under pressure. My mother suffered from ALS and I was her primary caregiver so I have experience dealing with a multitude of health issues and needs. Caring for others is something that I do well and most of all, enjoy. There is a personal satisfaction that I feel from helping others. This is something I was born with and it comes natural to me. A personal achievement that I am proud of is the ability to learn quickly and the ability to understand the needs of others. I also speak fluent English and Spanish.

My responsibilities included caring for a 95 year old woman in her home with dementia who was restricted to the use of oxygen 24 hours a day and who had physical limitations. I coordinated and was in charge of making sure her medications were ordered and administered on a daily basis. In addition, I prepared her meals and bought her groceries and supplies that she needed. I made sure that her oxygen machine was maintained properly and set up her albuterol treatments each night before I left each day. I took care of household needs such as her laundry and dishes. I coordinated her appointments with Hospice and made sure all her nurses, social workers and the person who bathed her were doing their jobs properly. Most importantly, I spent time with her talking and making sure that she felt loved and cared for. I worked a total of 20+ hours per week. This was a temporary 2 week assignment which was the catalyst to me wanting to pursue this as a career.

A- ask L- listen O- observe H- help A- ask again Caregiving isn't only about feeding, clothing or cleaning. It's also having an understanding of how to navigate a sometimes complicated relationship between the ones who give care and the ones who are in need of it. Caregiving can be challenging. All I can do is keep a positive attitude. I'm a people person and I've always enjoyed helping others, even when it infringed on my personal life. It's just part of my nature. I started caregiving somewhat by accident when I assisted an elderly neighbor living alone after her mentally challenged son passed away. After that, my father-in-law with dementia came to stay with us for a short time and I took care of him for about a month. It was an afterthought, but that prompted me to do this as a career because it seemed like a natural fit for me. I became a professional caregiver in 2014 and have worked privately and with a number of agencies. I know the importance of good quality care and respect. My elderly father passed away years ago and I have an aging mother. When the time comes, I would want her to be cared for by someone such as myself. I have an enormous amount of patience, so I can handle the stress that goes along with this type of care. I was the second oldest of 5 brothers and sisters. I raised my daughter and helped with my four grandchildren and now have two great grandchildren, so I have a lot of experience giving care, changing diapers, feeding, bathing and dealing with all types of conflict. Every aspect of a caregiver. The only difference is the size of the person. Smile! I'm currently open to discussing any caregiving situation. My rate is negotiable. I have all of my certificates as well as a recent physical and TB test. I've also been cleared on a level 2 (FBI) background check, which allows me to work in this field and is required by the board of nursing. Let's have a talk and go from there. I can answer any questions you may have.

I BECAME A CAREGIVER BECAUSE I ENJOY PROVIDING CARE-GIVING SERVICES TO THOSE THAT CANNOT DO FOR THEMSELVES OR NEED ASSISTANCE. ALSO BECAUSE I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED HELPING PEOPLE SO I KNOW I AM DOING THE RIGHT THING. BEING A CAREGIVER GIVES YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE YOU CAN MAKE IN PEOPLE LIVES BY HELPING THEM AND MAKING THEM BE ABLE TO TRUST YOU.
