I believe I am a great caregiver because I enjoy helping others and I show it in my work. I became a caregiver because I enjoy the feeling that I had when I was younger helping my grandmother. She was very sick and dependent on us. While caring for her I understood the importance of the little things, such as, keeping the house clean, having conversations with her about things she enjoyed talking about and helping her accomplish tasks that she would have difficulty doing on her own. I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I helped her do things, such as run errands for her and helping her around the house. I get that same feeling when I help others. I had my first child at 16, she was 26 weeks old and just below 2 pounds at birth. It was the scariest moment of my life, the doctors warned me that it will be difficult to care of her. But I still wanted to be a part of her life. She was underdeveloped and it will be a long and hard road ahead of us. I stood by her every step of the way. Through the daily visits to the NiCU; to the countless doctor and specialist appointments; the weekly early intervention visits with the coordinator, occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech therapists. It was a tough time. But we made it through, with my motivation and drive to get things done. Now she is doing well socially, academically and medically.
