I became a caregiver because I care and love helping others. I'm very passionate about this field that I'm in. Why you might ask, because of my mother. It started 23 years ago when she became very ill. I was her caregiver. Doing this time it was hard for me. I lived in another state and I also had a 2 year old. When she became ill I moved back home to take care of her even though I had 3 older siblings and 1 younger sibling. I want to be the one that she can lean and depend on. Doing this time she had her leg amputated. I had to learn how to do sterile dressing and assist her with using a colostomy bag. I also prepared her meals for her and schedule her doctor appointments. I enjoyed taking care of her. Just knowing that I was able to be there for her made me very happy. It was stressful at times but I wouldn't change one second of it. That was my high lite of my day just knowing she was well taking care of. I learned a lot about my self doing this time; I've learned that I had a lot patient and compassion for others. This experience have change my life for the better. It gave me the drive and the determination to take care of others, other family members and to become a CNA.
