About Brian

My name is Brian and I am a experienced caregiver who provided 24/7 care of my dad, Dan, who had Alzheimer's disease/dementia for five years until his death in Aug. 2018. I assisted with bathing, grooming, diapering, dressing, toileting, exercise, bed to wheelchair transfers and the like. I shopped, prepared meals, fed him, did laundry and oversaw medication usage. I also met regularly with hospice nurses, music therapists and the team at Heartland Hospice who regularly assessed dad's condition. The team marveled at how well dad was doing. Even though he wasn't able to speak much, his eyes and smile said it all. As a result of regular application of lotion, dad never sustained any bed sores. He was on hospice longer than most because of the TLC he received. I worked through an agency for 6 months and completed a two-day caregiver certification course. I provided two seniors with hands-on care. In May 2019, I worked a split shift with Lombard resident Louis (and his dog) and provided medication management and assisted with toileting and fall prevention and showering. I attended his funeral in January 2020 which his daughter Sue appreciated. For the past year and three months, I cared for an 86-year-old wheelchair bound senior, making sure he took 15 pills several times a day, helping to change his colestomy bag, providing sponge baths and showering, helping him exercise and making sure he propped his leg. I worked 10-hour days Monday-Friday and never missed a day. I accompanied Silvio to doctor's apts., meet weekly with nurse and did all the grocery shopping and cooking. We also did puzzles, played cards and Bunco. I'm looking for full-time/part-time caregiving job where I can be your senior's advocate, companion and friend. Thank you for your consideration.

Compassionate, Reliable Caregiver

Jan 2020 - Apr 2021
John, nephew of senior
For the past year and four months, five days a week for 10 hours a day, I compassionately and reliably cared for an 86-year-old wheelchair-bound senior with several health issues. I helped him change his colestomy bag, made sure he took required medications several times a day, and that he stayed safe while walking/exercising. To help with edema, I propped up his swollen legs and helped take some of redness away with epson salts. I did all the grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, light cleaning, etc. I accompanied him to doctor's apts and meet weekly with homecare nurse. Companionship-wise, we did puzzles, played Bunco and cards and talked about his career, his father/mother, etc.

I started as a caregiver after I left teaching with CPS. Caregiving has become a passion for me. I am honored to be able to help others. I take pride in having high standards, especially when caring for others. I know how important it is to keep clients in their own home. I love that I can help people, especially those in the end stages of life. I am especially proud to have cared for 2 family members in their last months/years and have learned a lot. I continue to be willing/interested in learning whatever I can. I am proud of everything I've learned and taking that knowledge with me to each of my clients. I treat every client with the same care, love, respect, dignity and privacy that I would want to be treated. Each client is unique and I make sure to tailor my care to THEIR needs/wants. I truly enjoy being a caregiver and think of it as more than just a job; it's a dedicated lifestyle. I choose NOT to get my CNA license because it would tie my hands. I would not be able to do wound care, catheter changes, g-tube feedings and changes, medication dosage, administration, and set ups, insulin shots, or most of what I have done for my hospice clients. I have been trained by various Drs, nurses, hospice staff, CNAs, wound care specialists, and staff at The Rehab Institute of Chicago. I choose to learn and take everything I've learned to better my client's life, for as long as I can.
