I enjoy helping others. I'm a people person, I enjoy putting smiles on people's faces. I've done this kind of work for 12 years or more. I've come to learn people's wants and needs and understand their way of life. I work at a nursing home and it's sad a lot of these people rather be home and try to have a regular life than be in a facility with a bunch of strangers. It's very important for me to help take care of somebody in their home, because the person will get one on one care. He or she will not feel neglected but loved and cared for. We all need somebody to talk to and bond with.

Help the elderly with grooming, oral care, toileting, dressing, changing personal products, personal hygiene. I also do bed checks every 2 hours. I document and chart on the computer residents's nightly activities. I also clean wheelchairs, trash and linen barrels, prepare and deliver ice water/thickened liquids and pericloths to the residents's rooms. I give residents over the counter meds(Tylenol ). I also assist the supervising nurse with turning bed ridden residents on their sides for comfort and skin safety.

I helped people with physical, mental ,behavioral disabilities. I managed a Day Center with 4 staff members. We helped clients with, social, monetary, safety and health skills. We helped them with goals and other requirements from state. I also did monthly checks on the fire and carbon monoxide alarms, security lights, the temperature of the freezer and refrigerator and hot water. I also took a couple of clients job searching so they can be part of the community. We also toileted the clients and documented their toileting, eating, behavioral and seizure activities.

I became a medical assistant to help people. In working in a physician office I had the experience of working with all ages. In this day I have seen more elderly people trying to live at home who need some help with care in order to stay at home. Some of the elder are trying to stay together as long as possible but due to age can not give the care that is need for the other person. With insurance not wanting to cover for a long stay at a hospital for patient, more are sent home to recover and are in need of extra help in order to recover. This can put a strain on the family life of having to take care of an ill member and with help can help in the recover of the love one and aid in making family life more normal. With help of a care giver it can relieve the burden which is placed on a family member when a love one is ill or in need of care. With my life experience I have work with many different types of people, old to young, some better off than others, and all types of races. We all have family and loves ones that at time need help whether it is from a family member or some one else we all can use a helping hand.
