I have been a Caregiver for 1 year now and I am currently employed at the Masonic Home of Shelbyville. I love being a caregiver and caring for the elderly. I have extensive training in Dementia/ Alzheimer's care. I work on the dementia unit at the nursing home and I have attended Hand-in-Hand Training for dementia. I have learned different ways to help these patients with daily tasks, as well as when they agitated and upset. I have worked the Silver Angels Program at The Masonic Home, which is a dinner-time group with dementia patients to help them with sundowning and agitation before dinner until bedtime. The majority of our patients need intermediate to complete care. My favorite part about being a caregiver is getting to build relationships with the elderly and their families, as well as learning about their lives.
