Medical Assistant

Durham Drive Health Service
My duties for this job were to work closely with the doctor when he was accessing a patient that is wanting to undergo treatment for drug issues. I would arrive to work every morning to gather the charts that were on the counselors placed on the hold list to see for the day. I would then prepare myself for the day by making sure that I am completely stocked and have all the items available. As I am doing paperwork periodically throughout the day, I am called to the lab by the receptionist to collect UA's that are on the list for that day. On Tuesday and Thursdays I am also taking in new patients. Once the new intake was through with the paperwork, I would take the patient into the lab where I would collect vital signs, ask multiple questions to gather information on the patient. I would collect blood and urine samples on all new patients at the time of their intake. I would also administer a TB skin test on all intakes as well. When I am finished with the patient I would take them to their assigned counselor l. When the doctor would arrive I would take the patient to the exam room where the doctor would access the patient. Once the doctor has seen all the patients for the day I would go over all the paperwork that other patients needed to have singed off. At the end of the day I would do filing in the patients charts of all the medical procedures that I performed on the patient.

My duties for this job were to call the patients to into my office daily. I would first ask the patient for their identification and the doctors orders to see what services were needed. I would create a new account for a first time patient by asking for theirs name, date of birth, social security number, and their current mailing address. I would then proceed to ordering what the doctor needed to have done on the order. I would make copies of the order, retrieve the print outs of the labels I created, go back into my office, place the armband on the patient for proper identification purposes. If the doctor ordered blood work I would collect blood with the proper tubes for each blood test required. Once this was done I would label the blood work with the patients information, place it into a biohazard bag, place the order in with the blood work and send it off to the lab. If the patient was here for other purposes I would do the same process, but would take the patient to the designated area for the techs to preform the test.
