I am a caring and compassionate person. I am patient and kind. I grew up volunteering at the nursing home my mother worked at. I enjoyed getting to know people and hearing their histories. Taking care of my grandmother with Alzheimer's disease taught me patience and sparked an interest in how the mind works. It is vital to know that clients are people trying to have the best quality of life possible. It is a privilege to be the person helping someone to maintain their dignity. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver would be the ability to make the person I take care of feel as independent and happy as possible. To help someone maintain as much function as possible or even improve their daily functioning is an uplifting experience. A personal achievement that I am proud of would be when working with hospice patients, I was able to make their transition comfortable and peaceful. To me, to take care of someone at the end of their life is the greatest privilege of all.

As a C.N.A I was responsible for the care of 7 to 15 patients. I assisted in ADL's (activities of daily living) which include but are not limited to: dressing, bathing, grooming, transferring, and feeding. The patients I took care of were people who had suffered strokes, Alzheimer's patients, post-op, and hospice. Before getting my certification as a nursing assistant I worked as an indirect caregiver. As an indirect caregiver I was responsible for making and pulling down beds, putting away laundry, refreshing water, and performing one on one work with patients. I would sit and visit with different clients. I was assigned one on one duties with clients with behavioral issues or hospice patients.

I provide reading services, am an accomplished Scrabble player, enjoy card games, such as Rummy (but no Poker or Bridge...), and play other board games and enjoy jigsaw puzzles, also. While my Bachelor of Arts is in English, with a minor in Speech Communications, much of my professional work has involved in crisis management and governmental processes so I am very familiar with "Red Tape" and dealing with the requirements of documentation for personal/ medical / and social programs. I am also an accomplished cook and homemaker and if I don't know the recipe or the process, I will locate or take direction for the best possible results in the kitchen, bath, and home. Finally, I am an intelligent, caring woman, raised on a farm in South Louisiana, educated and well-read, have a good and practical sense of humor and a well developed caring mentality, steeped in patience and compassion.
