I became a caregiver because I enjoying helping people. Assisting others whether in the hospital, skilled nursing , or home setting is rewarding. Many people have much pride and I think it is important to guide them into being as independent as they can for as long as they are able too both mentally and physically. My passion is assisting the older adult population. It is key to building both a trusting relationship with the person being cared for along with any family and or friends involved. Being a caregiver you get to meet many people. That would be my favorite part. I am a people person, and having strong communication skills and being trust worthy is a must. My first encounter with the geriatric population was when I was in high school I volunteered at the skilled nursing facility my great grandmother lived in. After meeting the residents, and assisting them during activities I knew I wanted to be a caregiver. I have worked in the hospital setting for 10 years, customer service for 1 year, and a patient care assistant for 9. I graduated with my bachelor degree in interdisciplinary health services, and have a master degree in occupational therapy, although not certified at this time. Some of my hobbies are playing sports, working out, being outdoors, reading, meeting new people, and spending time with my family.
