My decision to become a caregiver came from personal experience. A few years ago my mother became very ill suffering from a disease that caused extreme weekness and rapid onset of dementia. It was fortunate that I could be there to help my Dad take care of her many needs. To give him a break I went to their home almost everyday, I learned firsthand how important the caregiver roll is to a person or family in need. After my mom passed, I became a volunteer at a nearby assisted living senior center and chose to work in a memory care unit. That experience cemented my desire to work in the senior care field. From there I left my career as a Medical Lab Tech and became a caregiver. It has proven to be very rewarding and in some small way brings me closer to my Mom.
