About Amber

Hello. (I am just starting out with Carelinx )I have been a caregiver pretty much my whole life. My first child was born with a host of health issues as well as ASD and extreme ADHD. Professionally I've been doing it for about 5 years. I started taking care of my father as he aged and provided his hospice care. Then I did it professionally after his death for a friend who hired me because I know how to navigate the va health system. I then started it professionally after relocating to MO. I enjoy taking care of people and am incredibly honest, compassionate, and dedicated to my clients. I do in fact believe that the first part of being a in home health care giver is to actually care. I've included a small list from my resume of skills I have utilized as a PCA. My empathy and understanding of all sides helps me to connect with my clients. Assisting patients with hair care, dental care, and shaving Clean patient houses to their specifications. Assisting patients with bathing/spong bathing patients Caring for clients with impaired memory and dementia. Assisting with bathroom needs. Dressing patients Feeding patients Housecleaning Laundering clothing Housekeeping/Organizing Running errands Using a hoyer lift to transfer patients Basic wound care Reminding patients to take their medications Cooking for patients Assisting in yard clean up and gardening needs when asked.

I realize this is not necessarily considered job experience however, I feel it is relevant experience. I provided fulltime care to my father who had macular degeneration, memory loss, early onset dementia, and incontinence. For over 10 years I took care of him and he was not always the easiest patient. He had developed dementia and was prone to fits of paranoia. I provided live in care for long stretches during this time as well. My duties included cooking, cleaning, making and taking him to his appointments at the VA health center, managing his medications, essential correspondences, and general transportation to wherever he needed to go. In the final year I provided hospice and incontinence care. Provided dental care, hair cutting, and shaving. Trimmed finger and toenails. Helping with his impaired memory as well as handling his paranoia and dementia. Helping him get dressed Cooking Housecleaning Laundering and repairing clothing. Meal planning and preparation Representing him during visits to healthcare providers as well as ensuring he kept his medical appointments. Running errands such as getting items from the hardware store, grocery store, or other location. Handed all communications with the VA Health System as well as setting up appointments and getting prescriptions filled. Wound care. Handled all essential correspondence and wrote out anything he needed me to. Incontinence care. Medication management.

I like to be there for someone that cannot care for themselves because it is not easy to live a life like this when you cannot do things for yourself that you may have once been able to and cannot now. I have been caregiving since the year 2000 and just have a compassion for people. I am a certified medical assistant and also earned a certificate of phlebotomy. I am currently working toward my associates degree and have one semester left to complete. I plan in the near future to take classes to be a licensed practical nurse. I have 5 kids that are ages 17 to 23. I have a chiweenie named neeko that is 4 and he thinks he is a real baby and so spoiled.
