I have had over 30 plus years experience as a caregiver and it all started when I was young I use to go to elderly people's home and help them while others played I was learning a skill that would help me later in life. That is where I learned compassion & empathy along with how to give a insulin shot (smile). The stories I listened to and the smiles I received made me know at a young age what I wanted to do in life. I also became a caregiver at an early age because I had to be trained to become mother's caregiver. She was in a accident suffered a head injury that caused a stroke while removing a blood clot during her surgery. Not to mention I delivered my niece one early morning while waiting for the ambulance to arrive my niece hmm let's say time wasn't of the essence. When they finally arrived she was already there. I've worked as a HHA in the home settings as a CNA/MA in hospitals/nursing homes/ assisted livings. While working in the nursing homes we was offers training by a wonderful physical therapist to do certain range of motion exercises which gave us the opportunity to get titles such as RA which stands for restorative aids , also given titles like BA which is to give baths in the jetted whirlpools. I have spent most of my adult life working in the medical field which I have found to be not just a job it is a passion for me to work with someone and give them that extra guidance that makes them feel able to complete certain things on their own or at least with assistance but that smile they give you when it's done is worth more than anyone could imagine. When I moved to North Carolina I was offered a job to become supervisor coordinator after taking that position I never transferred my CNA's or MA's over then so just became caregiver afterwards I was over 20 plus CNA's that worked with many clients I was able to do scheduling payroll along if they needed an extra hand on the floor assisting with that also.
Caregivers that work non-full-time jobs or irregular shifts can negotiate extra compensation in addition to their standard hourly wage.
