Like most middle aged adults, I became a caregiver for my own parents as they aged and needed more assistance. My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and lived for ten years after that, requiring assistance with everything from managing his finances to bathing and dressing. My mother has diabetes, high blood pressure, dementia and othere illnesses that required vigilance and special care.
