I am an older female who has been caring for the elderly since, 1995, as a Red Cross Certified Home Health Aide.I have a lot of experience helping elderly clients and all their needs. It gives me great joy to help the elderly population to age gracefully. This was a generation of high values, respect, and heart-felt caring of others, that seems to be disappearing in today's society. I love to learn of the old stories, their travels, and their personal history. I decided to become a caregiver, because of the trend of insurance companies to wisk a patient out of the hospital or re-hab all because of financial issues. If the person had no immediate family in the area, or has outlived their friends, who would be there to help them? I feel that I am a very com- passionate person, that loves to offer my energies and love to help that segment of our society, that is all is often over-looked, and stuck or shoved in a nursing home, when they may not be ready to be there. My personal achievement in being a caregiver, is knowing that I really have tried hard to make a difference in an elders life, by helping them with personal care, feeding them, giving them a gift, a hug, sharing a wonderful story , or a hug together. All of these things are what being a truly dedicated caregiver means.
