I became interested in the healthcare field while serving as a missionary in Guatemala where I worked with poor people living in the mountains, garbage dumps, and street children hooked on glue. Many times after serving I would come home crying because of the plight of the people I served but I love reaching out to help others and served for four years. Here in New York City at one time I also worked with homeless people living in shelters and in the parks. I have worked in nursing homes in Florida and in homecare in New York City. I love being a caregiver, impacting humanity in a positive way as I help to improve and maintain health. Each and every individual that I serve is important to me and I treat him/her with respect, and dignity. I am a hard worker, patient, kind hearted, honest, and reliable. I attended college and the knowledge and skills I received in school have equipped me with the means to better care for clients. I have cared for clients on ventilator, G-tube feeding, trache, and foley catheter. I have assisted with meal preparation, laundry, and housekeep. I do not drive, I don't drink or use drugs. I'm working as a Hha with patient that suffer from traumatic brain injuries. Being a care giver to me is more than just providing care to someone. Caring for another is about showing compassion, respect, being by their side. Patience is also a key in the aspect of taking care of the patient. I always had a passion for taking care of loved ones. I believe that i am very emphatic and compassionate working with people in their home I want to make sure I give the best care that I can in every possible way, by showing compassion and empathy I allow my patient to understand that I'm here for you, also allowing them to know that I care. I am very patient, I been working with patients with traumatic brain injuries for about 2 years and I've learn to cope and understand how they feel. I'm flexible as well. I enjoy being a caregiver the reason for that being is because at the end of the day I know that I've made that patient comfortable/happy even on their worst days. I know that I did the best that I can in helping them. A personal achievement that I really proud of as a caregiver is helping a little girl with cerebral palsy walk. I work with her for about a year, everyday we tackle small milestones until she walk. She still need some assistance but the most impaortant things is that she can do it on her own with her walker.
