I cared for my mother-in-law for 5 years after she got a stroke and also cared for my own mother for 6 years after she was diagnosed with cancer. I developed much compassion for the sick and elderly. Not only did I do the daily chores expected of me, I took the time to sit and listen to what they had to say. They shared their stories that family members don't have time to hear. People need companionship, they need to remember who they were and who they are now and that they are still as important as they were back then. Two things I am most proud of is helping my mother-in-law walk on her own two feet again, and becoming best friends with my mom the last six years of her life At this time of my life, I have much to offer those who need help. I had a client with dementia who turned out to be the most kindest, loving person I have ever known, even if others didn't think so. We became best friends. He knew that when it seemed the world was not safe for him, he knew he was safe with me.
