About Joyce

As a caregiver, you will notice that I understand the needs to my clients and am very patient with them. I have had lots of illness myself and I know what my clients want it their situation. Kindness goes a long ways. I started care giving at 24 with my live in Grandmother. I really loved doing it and have continued for over 40 years. Many times they need transportation to Dr. appointments and the family isn't available. 4 ears can remember more than 2. I prefer working one on one rather than working with a group. I feel clients prefer and need the personal touch that can only be given when working one on one. They become my family. I like listening to stories that these older people have. I learn from their lives. It is good for them to be able to talk about their memories. It is important for them to feel appreciated. I love to see elderly stay in their own homes as long as possible. This is where they are most comfortable. Change is a large stress and even more so as we age. Most of my clients have been able to die at home rather than need to be moved. I'm grateful that I have been a part of that wish.

Have cared for people with Parkinson's, COPD, Mental Illness, Dementia, Stroke, Heart recovery, Brain tumor recovery, Quadriplegic, Hip replacement recovery, Knee replacement recovery, physical therapy, Just slowing down. Have given baths, helped with dressing and grooming, done light housekeeping, played games, visited, transported and stayed for Dr. appointment, grocery shopped, done some meal preparation, dressed wounds, fed people, fed using a tube, set up medications, given medications, given shots. I love pets and am a non-smoker. I learned care giving as I went, My Mother was a nurse and I helped her study for exams. But I always knew I wanted to be a one on one care giver. When I went to high school they didn't teach anything like that. The Doctor always told me what to do and I did it. The physical therapist told me what to do and I did it. When the client reached a certain level then we went back to therapy to learn what to do next. It saved them going 3 times a week.

I am a kind, sympathetic and caring individual who loves to help others. I am often told I am very selfless and compassionate. I pursued caregiving because I have always wanted to work in the healthcare field; I plan to become a nurse and working as a caregiver will serve as a stepping stone into my career. What I like most about caregiving is that I feel that it is a field in healthcare where I can directly help people the most. I am very proud of becoming a certified nursing assistant and obtaining my CPR certification.
