What makes me a great caregiver? I believe it is because I genuinely care about others, especially the elderly. I have had plenty of experience working with disabled and elderly people from a place of real concern and simply wanting to be helpful. I have never sought to care for others for financial gain, but as things in our world have so quickly changed, I found myself needing extra work. I thought this would be the best natural fit for me as a part-time job. I would able to bring a smile to people's faces. I would get to visit the sick and dying and those that just need a helping hand. What could be better than assisting someone in need and being a friendly companion? My desire is to bring joy to others. My most memorable achievement in home care was the day I met Cheryl. Cheryl was an elderly woman who lived in my neighborhood, except she did not live in a house but a sidewalk. She had been on the street for years and it showed. I was able to befriend her and talk to her enough that she began to trust me. One day I found her lying on the sidewalk and not able to move- many tried to take her to the hospital but she would not go with them. I had earned her friendship so she let me take her to the emergency room. Although the cancer she had advanced to stage 4 she was given only had a few weeks to live. I was able to put her in touch with her children where she finally went home to, having died in their care being reunited after many long lost years apart. I got a card in the mail weeks later and and it simply said, ' you are my angel- thank you'
