What makes me a good caregiver, empathy, patience and reliability. One of the best qualities I have as a caregiver is a sense of empathy. Whether I am caring for a small child in daycare or helping an elderly person recover from surgery, a sense of personal understanding and connection is vital. I as a caregiver have the ability to separate myself from potential anger and resentment and not take any situation personally, all while still providing high-quality care services. Patience is a virtue. And last but not least Reliability is a MUST; Reliability is a vital trait in a caregiver. People receiving care come to rely on and depend upon their caregivers and often feel a sense of personal attachment. Caregivers must continually be on time, particularly if administering food or medical care is part of the position’s responsibility. I love providing home care services to those that would otherwise not be able to do so. The smile on their faces is overwhelming and makes me feel I have done my job right. I have always enjoyed helping people so I know I am doing the right thing.
