I was a physical therapist assistants assistant, I would help with shorting equipment and would help keep everything organized. I would also do paper work like scan and send paper work, answer emails, short out the paper work like residents reports from their physical actives and remind the therapist to get there papers in. I would also help with physical activities and exercises the physical therapists would do.

When I worked here I got my certificate and took a class to learn how to feed, do the Heimlich maneuver, make residents beds and learn simple care like cleaning up helping serve trays and helping residents get things move things and just basic needs. I also learned how to put in information into kiosks/computers, for example I would measure how much they ate on their plate and also how much they drank, so the nurses and nursing assistants knew how they were progressing and if their was anything else we could do to help them progress or stay healthy. Also while I was there I helped the business office scan and send paper work also I would help short it. I also covered the secretary position there witch consisted of shorting paper work/mail, signing people in, setting up appointments, and lots of work on the computer.

I would run activities with residents like bingo and other fun games and different exercises everyday. We'd also do crafts and other fun stuff like that. I would also help serve lunch/dinner and run the Bistro witch was a dinning room some residents would eat at, we would serve them their plates and measure out their drinks, so they didn't overcome their liquid intake. Then I would also sometimes cover the front desk when they needed a lunch break or 15minute break or sometimes when they needed someone to cover. When I would cover their shift or breaks I would answer the phones, short mail and paper work, help people sign in

I do not look at home care as just a job, but a relationship between individuals who you can build a bond with. I have not done home care in a long time and miss the interpersonal relationships I am able to have as a care giver. I am a 1st generation college graduate which is an achievement I am very proud of and has allowed me to take on a different occupation and be successful, but I miss my home care routes and want to do what I can to help others so I am looking at giving additional time for individuals in need.
