I love working with people, especially those that need a bit of extra help throughout their days. It is incredibly humbling to serve people in such basic ways, and makes me appreciate everything I have been given in life. Having had experience already in this field at YAI, I've developed a lot of patience and compassion to put the needs of whoever I serve before myself. I am most proud of the way I handled my last experience there as a direct support professional. There I was responsible for two individuals each day, who could not communicate using words and thus didn't have much say in their lives. Every single day, I really tried to enrich their lives by adding an activity or teaching a new skill that would help them feel active and involved in their lives.
