I began my fascination with healthcare as a child. I would polish my grandmother's white nursing shoes for her in the mornings as she was getting ready for work. She worked as a CNA at a nursing home in Lexington, VA. I remember looking at her and thinking I want to be just like her when I grow up. So as an adult I received my LPN and worked 18 years in Critical Care roles as well as skilled nursing home units in Roanoke and Martinsville to honor her memory. I've spent most of my life taking care of people because that is my passion and what I'm most proud of.

I retired in 2014 from Ultrasound. I have been in the medical field for over 40 years and have had many duties through those years. I started and a Radiologic Technologist then became a Medical Diagnostic Sonographer. From there I was Director of Radiology for 9 years. I started back in Ultrasound and retired from there. My original profession is very physically demanding and I can't work a 40 hour week at the pace required. I would like to help elderly or disabled persons to maintain a normal lifestyle. Since my teen years I have wanted to become a nurse because of my love for people and caring. During the summers of 2011 and 2012 I worked as a volunteer Certified Nurse Aide in Zambia at a hospital for children with curable disabilities. This experience confirmed my love for nursing and then in 2012 I began taking pre-nursing courses and I will start Radford`s Nursing program in the fall. Nursing is so much more than just the science and the vital signs. Nursing the whole body approach to caring for sick and hurting people. I have learned so much through the patients I have cared for about life and wisdom and that knowledge is a gift I will never forget.
