As for children, I have not only cared for multiple children over the past several years through an individualized schedule, but also in a professional setting. It's not only kids that I enjoy being with, but I also enjoy working with teens, adults, and the elderly! I have counseled at an 18+ special needs camp for the past 2 years and helped with special olympics groups of all ages. I am still active in these activities throughout the year! Saying this, it is unquestionable that I have the experience to care for people of all ages. I am a certified lifeguard and certified in CPR, AED, and professional first aid training. Additionally, I am 2 years into an occupational therapy degree and have observed at several facilities as reputable as Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, so I know almost exactly what to look for in developing and declining individuals and how to work on struggling aspects of their daily life. Finding a responsible and caring babysitter is difficult and I can assure you that I am both! Let me know! I would love to help your family grow!

For the past several months, I have volunteered at an equine assisted therapy facility my local area. Here, it is my job to walk next to individuals while they ride a horse and work on balance, coordination, and muscle flexibility. Much like other things that I have experienced, I had to tailor my personality and teaching style to fit each separate special needs individual. It was essential that I could recognize when assistance was needed and decide the best way to provide distinguished ideas and voice concerns. Working with these individuals truly makes my week.

Camp Marc

Camp Marc is a nonprofit organization in which the mentally and physically handicapped adults can experience camp like others in society do. Over 150 of these devoutly grateful adults gather together for an entire week full of music, nature, sports, arts & crafts, swimming, and boating. Camp Marc offers all of this while simultaneously teaching our campers social skills and helping with the ability to do physical tasks in an entertaining way. I can wholeheartedly say that it is the most fulfilling and overall best experience that I've ever had and will continue to have. These campers are truly are a blessing, and I can not stress how lucky I am to get to work with them on a yearly basis. At a place like this, it is universally understood that no two campers will ever be alike. There are impairments present for half of these campers dealing with hearing, vision, and/or vocal abilities, but nearly every camper has a clinical diagnostics such as down syndrome, autism, or cerebral palsy, as well as everything in between.

I can wholeheartedly say that the most fulfilling and overall best experience that I've ever had was becoming a peer tutor in the special education classroom at my local high school. The feeling of watching the students grow in cognitive and social aspects is absolutely unexplainable. There is no feeling like the one I get by not only watching big achievements, but also by watching little achievements because for them, they are just as big. The challenges can be hard, but they most definitely were worth it.
