I am patient, tolerant and very kind. I've raised 5 children of my own and handle situations well by staying calm and thinking clearly. Years ago, my family experienced 2 major life altering events that I believe equipped me for this kind of work. My husband was in an airplane crash and was not expected to live. I brought him home 2 months later in a wheelchair, needing extensive care. I did not know that I could ask for nursing assistance at home and somehow managed it all while taking care of 4 elementary age children at the same time. When my husband was still in the hospital I was very hands on so I learned a lot from the nurses there. I bathed and dressed him, got him in and out of the vehicle for PT & dr apts, managed and kept a detailed log of his medications schedule, etc. PTSD was also part of the experience so I have an understanding with that as well. He is healthy, walking and running today, living a full life. The 2nd event was a year after the crash. Our 8 year old son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. We did MRI's with contrast every 2-3 weeks to monitor the tumors speed of growth, sleep deprivation EEG tests, detailed log of activities and seizures. I've learned a great deal about critical thinking process and communication in being an advocate for someone when they can't speak up for themselves. Anything I don't know about or how to do, I'm very willing to learn.
