I am 53, single, and my child is grown. He is my biggest accomplishment because they told me that he would never walk or talk. He was born a little early due to a car accident and had to have emergency brain surgery at 15 hours old. He is 21, and walks and talks with only a mild case of cerebral palsy. My social work career took a back seat because there just wasn't enough of me to go around. When I tried to enter back into that field, the lack of services to offer made it impossible and heartbreaking, so I ventured off into restaurant management. I stayed for many years until someone I loved needed me worse. And there I found my calling. I have worn many hats. I have a degree in Social Work but no license. I have a certificate in Chemical Dependency counseling and no desire to use it. I have a Restaurant Management license and I'm sure with Covid now that thing is worthless. I am currently enrolled in an online college working on certification to obtain my medical billing and coding credentials so that I can work part time remotely. My goal is to have one or two people to be a caregiver to so I can feel good in my heart and get out of the house some but yet protect us both by not being exposed and potentially getting us sick. I live in Flint and I'd like to find someone close to take care of for both of our sake.
