About Susan

I took care of my father during the mid and late stage of Alzheimer's disease and understand how difficult it is for a patient to have to rely on someone else to help them take care of even basic needs. With that in mind, I try to help them with dignity and assurances that receiving help is not something to be ashamed of and that it is a gift and a privilege when someone allows me to help them to meet their needs. I feel I am a sensitive and caring. I am also very perceptive to see the clues or signs when a person is not having a need met but hesitant or can't express that need. I take initiative to try to help them meet their needs so that their experience is as pleasant and meaningful as possible. I am also a certified personal trainer, and have experience teaching group chair exercises for elderly friends in a day center setting for seniors with mental challenges. Growing up being the oldest of 6 siblings I had to be the caregiver due to my mother working long hours as a nurse. I truly enjoy/ love being a caregiver it brings so much joy and self gratification. My mother played a big part of why I love being a caregiver. seeing the love, she gave, and the return love played a big roll. It feels good to know that I have gained a client trust as well as the assurance that I will take care of them. To see them smile or just help them through a rough day knowing that they can count on me is a great reward. I've had a client I had just started with ask me, is this just a job or do you care? I care about what I do. This is one of the biggest questions that a client or family member has when looking for a caregiver. Staying positive, going beyond the call of duty, compassionate, caring, outgoing, patience, etc. To have the opportunity to care for your loved one or self would be a privilege and a blessing.
