My name is Kristen Williams. I am 23 years old and I go to school full time. However, being a caregiver works perfectly with my schedule. You're probably thinking "oh she's too young to understand or not well experienced to take care of my mother/father, etc." Well, I'm not a typical 23 year old. I have been disabled for it feels like forever but it was about 2.5 years. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and I had a colostomy bag for 7 months, and almost died. During those torturous times, I had to rely on other people to care for me and it was horrible to be YOUNG and depend on everyone for help. I know what it feels like to be cared for and I know what I needed to feel a little better and worth living. I am a very caring, loving, and nurturing person and I hate to see people in pain so I like to do my best to make others feel a little alive and good and not old and useless. They are humans too and I like to think back on how I was treated when I needed help from other people. I'm patient and I follow the person I'm caring fore's lead and do my job yet make them happy and comfortable. I wouldn't say what I went through was an achievement, but I don't regret it ever happening to me because at the end of the day, I'm helping others feel a little better each day so they don't get depressed about struggling at an old age. They put a smile on my face knowing I made their day. They become my people too!
