My name is Erica I am 27 and have 7 beautiful children . I first started in this field 11 years ago I started when I was 17 my grandfather was diagnosed with kidney failure which later turned into a renals diseases. My grandmother was his only provider things got hard as it got worse and going through the whole dialysis stage my grandmothers only option was to put him in a nursing home she hesitated I stepped in and took full responsibility of my grandfathers well being I did this for 6 months . Toileting,bathing meal prep med reminders appointments transfers etc he later was put on hospice I than did full bed rest I did changing feedings meds companionship until he passed I enjoyed every single moment of it I learned a lot about my grandfather that I never new about him. I realized that if I was able to help him including my family I knew I can help any other family in need I always say when my time comes there will be someone as awesome as myself who will be responsible of my well being. I'd say that my personality traits which help me be a great caregiver is having a lot of patience being dependable having a lot of companionship also being trustworthy . Rather than focusing on what their loved one can no longer do, a good caregiver tries be in the moment with them -- looking at photos, listening to music, cooking a favorite meal, remembering that they weren't always sick. The main thing attracted me into being a caregiver enjoy working with people and most enjoy jobs where you have one-on-one interaction with others. Helping others and making a positive difference in others life's Caregiving helps us foster a deeper sense of gratitude by reminding us that every day is an opportunity for kindness, compassion, and love. The most I enjoy about being a caregiver is Trust builds, and walls come down. sharing life with others, love doing it, and being loved in return. Being committed to the people they care for and receive many intangible rewards.
