I have been a caregiver 40 years. Always had a good repore with elderly growing up. Being there to help a loved one played a major roll in my job. I've worked in Assisted living facilities, Nursing homes and absolutely love it. I've used machinery like hoyer lifts, and other things. I'd prefer to stay away from that and heavy lifting. I also had my own assisted living years ago in upstate Ny.. I'm very experienced and I make it my buisness to be punctual and dependable. I take pride in my skills and I do my very best at all times. I became a caregiver through the influence of my great aunt and grandmother as they were the neighborhood caregivers. I watched them as a child and knew I wanted to do the same thing. I began by taking care of my grandmother when she became home bound in her older age. For the past three years, I was the care taker for my mother after she suffered a stroke. The thing I enjoy the most is feeling a sense of joy and humility in assisting those in need in conducting their activities of daily living. They are so appreciative. I consider it a personal achievement when they recover and there is no further need of my services. That confirms that my work with them has improved their quality of life.

I have a tendency of going beyond my job description, at work, I like to hear how the patient's day is going and build a friendly relationship with them. By doing so, I know and understand them better, mood wise and attitude. Being a caregiver disciplines me and shows me the other side of people who can not help themselves, so it becomes a blessing to say I help others. I also dance so physical fitness is also one of my passion along with physical therapy. I am proud of the fact that anytime a patient gets discharged, a thank you card is left with my name on it. My job is not easy but hearing a thank you makes it better.
