About April

Hello, my name is April. I have 20 plus years of experience respectfully caring for people. I have an exceptional work ethic and have learned many skills and earned credentials along the way. I am dependable, dedicated and can help make a positive difference in your quality of life. With compassion and empathy, I will listen and hear your story to understand your needs and work together as a team. Most importantly, I have a kind and caring demeanor and a passion for providing great care. This last year I left my Medical Assistant job to help care for my grandmother who had alzheimer's and a cancer re occurrence. She needed full time palliative care and eventually hospice. This was the hardest yet most rewarding job yet. All my training and skills prepared me for the privilege to give her the best possible care. My goal is to help you or your loved one be as independent and happy as possible with out stepping on any toes. In my experience with my in- laws who live in Ct., I came understand the challenges a family can face when deciding help is necessary. Sometimes this can be a difficult transition for some as they are not aware they need help or just don't want to accept any assistance from a stranger. I realize this is a delicate situation that takes time and patience to build a trusting relationship. My hope is to bring peace of mind to you and family members that you are getting the best care possible.

Experience & Education

Certified Medical Assistant II

Nov 2014 - Dec 2016
Overlake Hospital and Medical Center
In this position I worked in the Breast Surgery office at Overlake Hospital and Medical Clinics. Many of the people, (women and men) I worked with here were diagnosed with breast cancer or other breast related problems. I had the privilege to walk along side these people and help them on their journey. I took their vital signs, took medical histories, medication reconciliation, called in prescriptions, chaperoned procedures, assisted in minor surgeries and performed staple and suture removal. I was nominated and designated an Overlake Service Champion for my high expectations, dedication, and commitment to exceptional quality patient care, service and advocacy. In this position I spent lots of time just listening to patients to understand their story. For most patients especially those with a new diagnosis it is scary, unthinkable and overwhelming. The emotions they are feeling are real and they are all okay. I learned that by letting the patients express their feelings and thoughts they are able to process and cope with their diagnosis.

I also helped the family with house hold chores, ran errands, accompanied the family to medical and dental appointments and I would also get groceries and prepare meals. The kids always liked to help in the kitchen and it was fun baking with them.

Independant Living Advocate

Oct 1996 - May 2001
Banchero Friends Services
This position gave me the opportunity to work with a diverse population of developmentally disabled adults and elderly clients. I worked in their home and helped them manage daily living skills, assisting them with things they needed help with. Some of these things were: Bathing, shaving, dressing, cleaning, laundry, going to the local coffee shop to chat, help plan, shop and prepare meals. It was extremely important to document any spending and keep track of the finances to make sure the client was on budget. I scheduled and accompanied developmentally disabled clients to medical, dental and personal appointments documenting necessary information. I administered medications and delegated nursing care. I designed and implemented personal goal plans for clients. I acted as liaison between client, care workers, family and guardians while maintaining confidentiality.
