About Marie

Why did I become a Caregiver? I have been gifted with Compassion and Empathy. My diverse life experiences have allowed me to care for people with Dignity and Grace. I see those I care for as a whole person not Just their disease, disability or situation. During my hands on experience in Group Homes, One on One companionship, Private CNA Caregiver, Nursing Home and Nanny experience. I have acquired many skills and tools that have allowed me to care for others with dignity and grace. Despite their dementia, schizophrenia, autism, Asperger's, or mental illness. The Individuals I care for celebrate this person-centered care. I see and respect them as the most important person in my Now. A personal achievement I am proud of is my Patience, Love and Understanding. My ability to adapt quickly. I moved to Florida three summers ago from Minnesota. I have yet to get used to the Florida summers. However, I do enjoy and embrace the Flora, Foliage and Fauna. I see something new everyday. My new favorite Florida bird is the Painted Bunting. I love living Life on Life's Terms. What a Beautiful Gift.

I was a CNA/Companion Mr. Burch. Patricia Burchs' husband within their Home. Mr. Burch has Lewy Body Dementia. I did morning ADLS.( Shower, Shave, Brush Teeth, Lotion, Dress.) I did morning Medications. I provided Transportation to appointments. I Drove Mr. Burch to his Adult Day Program Monday thru Thursday. I did household chores weekly. Emptied dishwasher 4-5 a week. I Changed linens once a week. The house was Dusted the House weekly. Cleaned Bathrooms weekly. Windex Glass Doors. Cleaned Floors. Laundry. I Picked up Medications from Walgreen's. I Picked up Supplies from Walgreen's. I would read the New Yorker magazine out loud to Mr. Burch. We went to Parks and Lakes to walk when able. I would make Eggs, Omelets, Pancakes, Fruit Bowls et cetera for Breakfast. I would return in the Evening. Make a snack before Dinner. Assist with eating when needed. Evening Medication and Helping Mr. Burch into Bed.

I lived with a Young Man of 23 who is Developmentally Disabled. I made meals. Medications. Drove to Appointments. Assisted and redirected with Daily Living Skills. Bathing, Oral Care, Toileting, Dressing, Laundry, Bed Making, Cleaning, Social Boundaries. We went out on outings. Parks, Fishing, Kayaking, Movies, Walks and Grocery Shopping, Socializing with in the Community.

I assisted with the Care of a 36 yr old man with a Traumatic Brain Injury at the age of 18. I did all his ADLS. Toileting. Medication. Morning Stretches everyday for about an hour. Made breakfast. Assisted with eating when needed. Went for a walk in his motorized wheelchair. I traveled with the Family and stayed in Hotel keeping as much of the home routine as Possible. It was an amazing learning experience. I gained more skills through this experience. Which allows me to pay it forward as I continue to CareGive for others.
