About sandra

I have always been a caregiver. I am the oldest of 3 and my mothers best friend has 2 girls so I had to keep an eye on them all!! Now I am a mother myself to 2 beautiful girls. I am a great listener and can handle things when they get a little hairy. I remain calm in an emergency and can think logically and quickly in the time of need. I love helping people. I most recently have been working with adults with mental and physical disabilities. I had been at that company for 16 years!!

Plan and coordinate schedules for 40 adults with disabilities and 4 Vocational Assistants. The schedules consisted of a mixture of learning, community outings and daily living skills. I reported to parents and guardians and also to Care Managers. I had 6 month staffings with the team members for each individual. I came up with goals for each participant. I was trained to do PT for 2 of my participants. I also did feeding, tube feeding, toileting and personal care. I used a hoyer lift to get wheelchair participants out of their chairs. I entered notes and timecards into the computer system.

The number one thing I enjoy most about being a caregiver is knowing that I'm helping to make someone else's day just that much easier and or enjoyable. I've met some of the most interesting and grateful people working in my role as a caregiver. Whether it was a simple task that has to be done or one that requires a little more skillfulness, at the end of it all was improved quality of life for someone in need. I love cooking and being creative in the kitchen, trying new recipes and learning from more experienced cooks. Gardening and growing my own food feeds right into that love for cooking nutritional meals. Watching others enjoy them is a bonus. I'm compassionate, a good listener and understanding. Everyone has a story to tell and I'm happy to slow down and engage. One personal achievement I'm proud of is going back to school and getting my Associate Degree. I'd been on and off with college for a very long time and it felt good to stick with a topic of interest until the end. It's introduced me to like-minded people and continues to help me in my volunteer ventures in our community and food system.

You are entrusting me with your vulnerable loved ones in a vulnerable state and I don't take that lightly. If you want to play cards or bake cookies, I'm your gal.
