At the core of CareLinx’s mission is a commitment to enabling the elderly to age comfortably and safely in their own homes. It was with great satisfaction that we read Redfin’s blog post today on the 10 best cities for technology-assisted living, featuring CareLinx among other technology-based services that benefit the elderly. Utilizing housing and assisted living facilities data, Redfin shows how it can be more cost effective for the elderly to remain in their home without having to sacrifice the quality of care they receive. Indeed, thanks to technology, companies such as CareLinx are making it easier – and more financially feasible – for seniors to age in place at home. Redfin chief economist Nela Richardson says it well: “…when you compare the cost of a mortgage with the cost of assisted living facilities, in some cases it can make more financial sense to use those services and age in place, rather than move to a facility….” Technology-assisted living is not only becoming more widespread, but is particularly appealing given that the vast majority of aging adults prefer to stay in their current home as long as they can. With an increasing amount of evidence pointing to the benefits of aging in place at home, it’s heartening to know that families don’t have to sacrifice the quality of care for more affordable home care. The cities that made Redfin’s top 10 list are places where the elderly would have at least $1,500 each month to spend on the cost of services booked through CareLinx, Uber, Rover, Porch and Instacart, and, after paying their mortgage, would still be less expensive than an assisted living facility. See below for the top 10 cities for technology-assisted living:
- Washington, DC
- Philadelphia, PA
- Chicago, IL
- Austin, TX
- Houston, TX
- Boston, MA
- Miami, FL
