I need care for my mother, 89, and my father, 95, who both have early dementia. They are high functioning and able to eat, dress, shower, toilet, and groom themselves but need companionship, stimulation and conversation, basic supervision and someone who will strongly encourage a limited in-home exercise program. My mother wants to stay in bed during the day so I need someone who can STRONGLY encourage her to stay out of bed and keep her somewhat engaged. I would like someone to take her to church Sunday mornings where she can sit with her grandson during the service. Each day, the caregiver would need to show by 9:30 am to make breakfast, get my mom out of bed, shower if needed, and stay until about 2:00pm fixing them lunch. There could be transportation involved taking them for a haircut, nails, church, or to Ihop for breakfast. Regular working days could be Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. My parents live in their own home but they live on my property about 50 yards from my home. I am home myself most days if help is needed. My parents have a cat. Both of my parents are mostly compliant and are not difficult people. My mother may challenge you about staying out of bed during the day (she will want to nap a lot), and will want to put off her exercises for another time. I need need my caregiver to be strong in these two tasks and STRONGLY encourage her to only nap once or twice for a short period. My mother also needs regular exercise and stretching as she broke her hip 9 months ago and would prefer to remain sedentary.
