I am retired RN with 40 yrs nursing. I am compassionate about care and have 10 yrs experience with home health mostly with geriatrics . I was also a board certified lactation consultant before I retired. My managers have told me I have a very calming personality with my patients.

My name is Kelly Bernard originally from Jeanerette,La but reside in New Iberia,La I'm a mother of 6..3 boys and 3 girls I'm CNA certified was a DSW for about 10 years....WHAT inspired me the be a caregiver is my mother was bonded for 8 years before she pass away GOD rest her soul and we took care of her at home and after taking care my mother cause we didn't wanted to put her a nursing home cause we didn't wanted her to get mistreated cause she can't talk so after taking care of her I was like that WHAT I wanna do in life I wanna be a caregiver and take care of people that can't take care of themselves and I did just that and I most say I LOVE it I do my job with the much pride

I believe my nursing experience Helps me to be a great caregiver. I was working for a friend before I started taking care of my first client. I took care of her for a little over a year before she passed away. She had two different kinds of dementia, and we loved each other. I helped her with everything. I wasn't working as a caregiver. I was working for a friend of mine in another field, but the clients daughter called me and asked me if I would take care of her and I agreed and we were a good fit. She trusted me and I cared about her a lot. I love being a caregiver because it's rewarding and helping other people touches something in my heart and makes me a happy individual. Proud of the fact that I achieved my goal of becoming a nurse, but I was disappointed when I couldn't continue working as a nurse in the hospital setting. But being a caregiver gives me back that feeling of caring about people and helping them with their needs and their illnesses.

Back in 2001 observing how 2 caregivers were treating residents....put a desire in me to care for the elderly...to be caring and compassionate.
