For the past 9 years I was a Personal Caregiver for a 98 year old elderly woman with errands, paperwork, Dr. appointments,and grocery shopping. I also helped an elderly man in his 80's with Parkinson's for 1 1/2 years. During that time I was responsible for medication management, wound care, bathing, personal grooming, dressing, meal prep, feeding if needed, house cleaning, and laundry. I have been certified here from The Care Academy for being a Professional Caregiver, Preventing Falls In Older Adults, and 5 different categories for Alzheimer's and Dementia . I became a caregiver because one day as I was walking in Manhattan, I saw an elderly man was crossing the road, he needed help crossing because the traffic was too much for him to cross by himself so I took the opportunity in helping him to cross the road, it was then that I realized, I can take up this as a professional and that is when I became a HHA/caregiver.
