After raising four children I returned to school and became certified as a Home Health Aid, Nursing Assistant as well as Phlebotomy Tech. Raising four children has taught me that one must always use and implement active listening skills as well as expect the unexpected. I assist patients with daily personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, and grooming. I monitor patients' vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and respiration. I am a thoughtful and considerate person who takes pride in providing the best care possible. I became a caregiver through the influence of my great aunt and grandmother as they were the neighborhood caregivers. I watched them as a child and knew I wanted to do the same thing. I began by taking care of my grandmother when she became home bound in her older age. For the past three years, I was the care taker for my mother after she suffered a stroke. The thing I enjoy the most is feeling a sense of joy and humility in assisting those in need in conducting their activities of daily living. They are so appreciative. I consider it a personal achievement when they recover and there is no further need of my services. That confirms that my work with them has improved their quality of life.

My Clients means alot to me because I understand that I feed my family from what they pay me. Therefore, I sherish them and treat them with due respect. I have a background where I took care of my Grandfather for two good years, when he fell and became hemipledgic. I have loved taking care of Seniors ever since. 1993. In 2004, I did my CNA, and I have worked as a caregiver ever since. I have seen Seniors go through geriatric challenges and I have been a very close person to them, until when they leave this word. I have learnt to love and to provide care and support that they deserve until their last day. I am not bragging, but I have been a good friend to anyone who fell in my hands as a recipient. I became a caregiver first and foremost for the flexibility of the the job. When my kids were younger, this career gave me the opportunity to be home with them and work nights. I moved on to becoming an Administrative Assistant for more than 18 years. I was laid off from my job due to the last recession and I jumped back on my skills to continue giving care to the elderly. I enjoy helping the elderly in all walks of life. Some of the qualities I have are: I am compassionate, I get along with people, I am conscientious, reliable, and above all trust worthy. I was a valuable support for my clients, helping then with all the activities of their daily living, I cooked and served meals, I assisted with medications, I shopped for food and personal items, I provided transport/ accompanied clients to doctor's appointments. I was with one of my clients last year and realized that she needed to go to the hospital. I called the emergency service and stayed with her at the hospital till the family made alternative arrangement. When she was later discharged, I stayed and cared for her till she passed. I have now become a trusted friend of the family.

I believe that we are all special, unique, different and with a purpose for our existence here on earth. For the many years that I have been taking care of the military men and women, I have loved the joy and appreciation that they give back. It is without a doubt that I will take a great care of your loved one just like I would care for my own. For me, life is a gift that comes from God and therefore, it must be respected.

I have Self-control, sincere, devoted, generous, and kind. As a mother, and someone who came from a large family in which caregiving is rooted deep in my culture, I always wanted to take caregiving as a career and improve along that pathway. I like to entertain, converse, and read aloud to keep my patients or resident's alert. I also like to run errands and do weekly grocery shopping for them. In 2015 I started giving care to a couple. The wife pre-deceased the husband whom I continue to take care of. It has been 7 years now and counting, the children of this patient no longer consider me as a caregiver, but a family member because (according to them) of the 5-star care that I give to their dad. This is my personal achievement that I am most proud of in my career as a care giver.
