I believe what makes me a great caregiver is that I take care of all my patients as if they were my own family and make sure they are comfortable and most importantly I listen to their needs. I first became interested in health care when my mother was ill and needed care herself and realized that I had a real passion for helping others. I enjoy knowing that the family can be at ease knowing I'm there taking care of their loved ones. At Long Beach Memorial I was know as the "sitter whisper" because whenever they had a difficult patient they would alway assign me that patient and by the end of the day the patient would no longer require restraints or was completely compliant and friendly. Encourage patient to exercise. Review & ask dietary restrictions, preferences, & allergies. Change bed linens, replace trash bags. Always check expiration of food & medicines. Know vital information about patient's condition, treatment plan & any suggested activity.. In a capsule, it is very important to respond immediately to patient's call for assistance and/or treatment with the goal of creating a safe, effective environment to make a difference in the lives of the patient & their families. Patience is a virtue inherent in me. I always work above & beyond my duty for the comfort & safety of my patients. I have been a caregiver since I was 18. I took care of my father who had esophageal cancer. I handled a gtube, medications, attachments for feedings, drs appts everything. From that time on i knew I could make a difference for those who need that help and companionship. I have worked for a company for a short time but I didnt like how they didn't follow through so I'd rather work for a family who can appreciate the care and love I can give to their loved ones. I know the struggles of giving your life to a sick or hurt family member and i understand help is really needed and I would love to offer my help.

I became a caregiver in August 2009 for my father, Brian. After a series of tests my father was diagnosed with early - stage of cancer. I have always taken care of my father because my mother was never around to provide support to the family. His condition is still in the early stages, but I am worried about the future. This situation brought my father and I closer. His condition has made me realize that this is career move that I wanted to peruse. I am not a caregiver by career but by choice. I am a caregiver that truly cares about helping others and want to make a difference in the lives of seniors and their families.
