Being a caregiver is rewarding it gives me satisfaction and a good feeling to be able to assist elders with things they can no longer do for themselves. I treat them as I would treat my own family members. Treat them with respect and let them know I am there to help them, not take away from their dignity. Just let them know they have someone who cares about them.

I graduated college in 2013. I have been in healthcare for over 20 years what got me started in 1992 when my son was born with a disability. I am a natural nurturing person. I I decided at a very young age that I wanted to be a nurse or a doctor. I had a grandmother that suffered from Alzheimer's disease for 13 years. Majority of the time that she was sick I cared for her. I always knew I needed to get into the health field because I saw how important it is to have a support system. When you have someone in your family who can no longer take care of themselves it seems to have a ripple effect with everyone surrounding them. At some point we could no longer take care of my grandmother in the house so we had to hire a home health aide and in doing so I really grew to appreciate the nature of the job. You become an extended family member you grow great bonds with your clients or patients and their familes. I love being an aide.

I have been a caregiver for 8 years. Before that I was a Dietary Director for an upscale assisted linlving and a Cafe Manager. I have always enjoyed working with seniors and others that need in-home care. I have been trained in CPR and First=aid. I have been fully vaccinated. I became a caregiver because I had two great aunts that had cancer and I use to sit and watch how caregivers would come and take care of them and I saw how they made a difference in my aunts lives and I knew then and there that I wanted to become a caregiver. I think that me being able to connect with people easily is what makes me a good caregiver. A personal achievement of mines is when I motivated a person who really didn't like doing anything to get up and move and be active.
