About me: My name is Nichole Dabney. I go by Nicky. I have been a service provider and care taker for over 6 years now. I have been liscened Independent Provider with the Department of Developmental Disabilities for over 6 years now. In addition to that, I also teach high school. This is my 2nd year of teaching at Liberty High School. When you love what you do it's not considered work. I got into this field after spending many years of caring for my Mother who was also wheel chair bound. It only seemed right to contine down this path even after she passed on. I think this is something that comes naturally to me. I wear many hats, but Mom is by far my favorite job of them all. I have two beautiful children whom I Love dearly and they are my number one supporters and fans. I am grateful for the opportunity to work in my gifts. I believe that everything and everyone has purpose. Mines is to be a servant to God's people.

My career was in business. I retired at a young age. I went into the health care industry from a suggestion of a relative who worked at a large local hospital. I worked there for 6 years and cared for hundreds of patients each having different illnesses. This background caused me to decide I would like to become an independent provider due to my experience. I particularly enjoy caring for elderly men with dementia. What I've found is their long term memories are interesting and have heard interesting stories especially from WWll veterans. I try to become "part of the family" with each patient. I try my best to help each patient maintain their dignity, be comforting, gain their confidence provide friendship and assure a safe environment. In all my past working experiences caregiving is my most satisfying.

I've been in this field for 18years . I started with taking care of my great-grandparents then my grandmother, through Blackstone. Caregiving is a passion that. I have love taking care of the elderly and being that support that companionship when someone that can't at the time,I just basically want the opportunity to give someone the love and care they need. when it's not convenient for the family. I wake up every day hoping to make someone's family member smile, laugh and enjoy the rest of the time that they have on this Earth. There isn't a better feeling in the world . I became a caregiver at a young age by request but as I got older it was done by choice. Caring for the elderly gives me satisfaction knowing that I can help people in a personal way. Several seniors I have cared for were not excited at all about having someone to come in to sit and to care for them but it took a short while for them to look forward to my arrival and they hated to see me leave. My main objective with care is to help the family members of those in my care feel they can live their lives without worrying about their loved one in my care.
