My name is Savannah Hicks. Im 23 years old. I've worked as a caregiver for 4 years, 6mths in a nursing home 3 & 1/2 in a hospital. I chose to become a caregiver when in college trying to decide on my career path, I wasn't sure if I wanted to be a counselor or a nurse so i decided to do some volunteer work at a nursing home. I ended up getting a job there & fell in love with caring for others. I've seen & dealt with a lot in the short time I've been in the medical field. Its taught me a lot about myself & my knowledge has grown. I hope to one day be able to afford to go back to school become a nurse. I'm a single mom of a 18mth that keeps me on my toes & makes me even more greatful for this beautiful life God gave us both. I'm more grateful & compassionate to be able to take care of others because unlike most people my age I know what it's like to have to let someone take care of me. Long story short I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when my son was 7mths old, I had to have 2 different surgeries & undergo radiation. I'm now in remission & couldn't be more thankful to have the rest fo my life to spend with my beautiful little boy & serve others. I pray everyday for God to mold me into the person hes called me to be, & help bring other closer to him. Caring for others is definitely one of my callings in life & I'm more than happy to be seeing others.

My husband had a severe head trauma in 1997. I retired early from Bellsouth to take care of him. He passed away in 2012. I realized how much I enjoyed caring for others from being his Caregiver for 15 years. I love making their days happier and filled with someone caring for just them. My last patient passed away a few weeks ago, I took care of her for almost a year. Her family and her told me that she was always happy to see me show up, and they were happy that she was enjoying our visits, and felt comfortable going to work and leaving her with me.
