I describe myself as an outgoing, compassionate person with a ton of empathy. I started realizing I wanted to be a caregiver at the age of 9. I accompanied my mother to her job during the summers. She was the manager for Eastern Agency on Aging and provided weekly lunch and bingo activities for a group of elderly people. I really enjoyed helping people and the people I helped were extremely appreciative. I felt very rewarded, even at that young age. I had children young, became a CNA at the age of 23 and have been working in different settings with a geriatric population ever since.

At the small age of 9 i would help my aunt take care of my Great grandmother. Dressing and feeding and just being there for her. I've always wanted to be someones light in their darkest times. Taking great care of people is what I know. I've done caregiving my whole life and I always enjoy meeting new people and hearing the stories of how life used to be. I believe everyone deserves to have a good life even better a great ending. No one should ever feel unloved or wanted when they need help. I want to make life easier for other's, as we know illness doesn't make anything easy. I moved to lincolnville to help take care of a family member before corona. She had dementia and Alzheimer's as well as DVT. She passed away october 2020. She was and is an amazing soul. To put it simply, I love what I do and I love to help anyway i possibly can.

My grandparents are a big motivation for this career path, I want to give back and spread compassion. The best thing about being a caregiver is meeting new people and getting to know them. Whether it's the elderly, children, or animals I've always had a passion for helping others. This is my 5th year in this career and it's been an amazing experience.

I'm a people person,I always take the time to find a common interest with them. I enjoy caring for all as it makes me feel good,I'm helping someones family caring for their loved one. Every person is definitely different then the next,so what might work for others might not work for someone else I don't make that person do anything,they have their routine

Kindness, compassion, and empathy are vital in being a caregiver. I feel that when caring for someone's family member it is important to remember that they too were once young, and spry. They deserve respect and dignity as if they were a family member of my own. I have been a CNA in the past, and spending those extra minutes to do a residents hair, or shave a residents face just the way he likes it is so important in helping them to feel like a person. I care for a close family friend now after my regular work hours because I enjoy spending the time with her and helping her with activities of daily living but also encouraging and supporting her in maintaining the independence that she is able to safely have. A personal achievement that I am proud of is maintaining my CNA licensure while working a full time MA job. I did this so that I could continue to work with residents on weekends when I am able because they truly hold a special place in my heart.

My Mom was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia in 2009. I became her Plenary Guardian and caregiver until she left us in 2014. Since then, my mission and vision was to open a company to take care of Seniors and help their caregivers with respite so they can live their lives where they are most comfortable. Thus, Friends of Virginia was created. My long term goal is to open several gated tiny home communities throughout Maine for people with dementia. I am not only available to the Seniors but to their families as well so they can get a break and let their Seniors age in their current homes as long as possible.
