Some residents at the Assisted Living Community call me Christmas, saying it's close to Carol , my nickname. They said it fits my personality. Willing to give love (as the song goes... on Christmas Day!), happy, funny, full of joy! I have been taking care of my Father who suffered from stroke for 10 years back in the Philippines, being one of his caregivers. I was also his Physical Therapist. We moved here in the US 5 years ago, and I have worked as a caregiver , then transitioned to work in the Med Room as a Medication Technician at Maple Glen Assisted Living in Shelton, WA. I consider it a calling given the opportunity to work there. I am a people person and loves taking care of elderly. I treat them as family and I enjoy listening to their stories, and attending to their needs. Having a Physical Therapy background, and with experience in home health, clinical, and hospital settings, I could offer different types of assistance based on the needs. I consider my time at Maple Glen as one of my career achievements. I love all of the residents and I became The Employee of the Month in less than a year. Being a caregiver is a calling for me. Previous to caregiving I was working childcare and I thought about a more meaning in life to help people in need and so I got my cna license and have enjoyed helping people in need ever since. I've had a few experiences myself with what also got my into healthcare. My uncle's health has been declining and he was needing assistance so I would stay a few weeks at a time help him out around his house, and with his daily care of needs. I still go often to visit him and now he has a very good caregiver helping him. Another experience for me was when my mom had hip surgery so she was needing help to rehabilitate to walking but in the mean time she wasn't able to walk, bathe toilet herself, so I was around helping her with the daily needs she needed and doing that work just made me realize that is something I want to do as a career because seeing someone else be happy and comfortable makes me feel good about helping others.

I feel that I am a great caregiver because I have over 15 years of experience and I truly do care about people but I especially enjoy the elderly population. I believe that I became interested in being a caregiver back in the '90's because of my dear grandmother that I miss so very much. I learned a lot from her - she had great wisdom! I have also learned a lot from those that I have cared for and I very much enjoy hearing about their families and life stories. I just love helping people, plain and simple. :)
