I never know how to feel these out, but I'll just speak from the heart. Ever since I was around 6 years old, my grandpa taught me in 1 lesson. Respect your elders. He would tell jokes and I always loved hearing jokes. All through my life I tried different jobs, careers, and so on. I learned while working in sales, I always preferred the older crowd and they always seemed to love me and open up to me. I always hear the, "you remind me of my child/grand child." Even when working in retail I noticed the same. I just enjoy working with and around the older crowd. And even just light care or light house keeping I enjoy doing because I like to feel useful and helpful.

My dad was a 32 year retired military officer and a Green Beret. For 7 years, until his passing, I was responsible for all aspects of daily care. Included were meals, medication allocation, diabetes testing, transportation, (unfortunately he spent 5 years in a wheelchair) applications for making the home safe, wound care due to 4 major surgeries (some surgeries related to purple hearts from decades ago) dozens of minor surgeries due to agent orange/cancer, hygiene, house keeping, physical therapy, Dementia, Alzheimer's, depression, monitored vital sign, bed making, received physician's order, coordinated with hospital, physicians and physical therapist for monthly checks, perform first aide, kept him socially engaged by going to outside events i.e. restaurants, ball games, events and activities. I care a lot about the elderly. I first started out in this profession helping my father after my mother passed away. He was 75 and needed help with meals and cleaning the home, plus driving him to appointments. I also took care of my dad's sister, after her husband passed away. Helped with meals, took her to any appointments she had and helped with any cleaning around her home. She was 80 at the time and really needed my help. I've also taken care of friend's family members and also a girlfriend of my sisters who had surgery and needed someone with her for 3-4 days post op. It was a great experience doing that and feeling good about helping others. I enjoy the work that I do and look forward to meeting new clients and helping them with getting on with their daily lives. Although I enjoyed my "work", the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences were the relationships I made with my patients. I have also worked in home health and have cared for patients that have had strokes, dementia and cancer. My passion is making each and every one of my patients know that I respect them as a person, I value their life experiences, where they came from and the wisdom they have gained over the years. My personality is always extremely cheerful, positive and upbeat and it is contagious! I looked forward to seeing and interacting with them and they with me! My dad had Alzheimer's and I assisted in his care and managed his medical care until his death. I was his voice when he no longer had one. Over the years I have also helped take care of grandparents and other family members. This gave me the experience and ignited the fire and passion I have for elder care, I am their biggest "cheerleader" and best friend but also know how to encourage and be firm when it is tied directly to their medical well being!
